The Jackets struck gold in Port Orange, Florida last season when they were able to land the signature of 4* defensive lineman Derry Norris. So, it should come as no surprise the Jackets are trying to strike twice.
Earlier this week Georgia Tech went back into Spruce Creek high school and sent an offer out to 2026 defensive lineman Freddie Wilson. This offer clearly meant a lot to the talented prospect “It was honestly a heart dropping moment when Georgia Tech offered. Knowing I have a former teammate up there living his best life. Derry has great relationships with the coaches and players, and I know I can build a great bond as well coming from the same spot and position he did.”
Freddie has made it no secret how he feels about possibly being able to team up with Derry Norris at Georgia Tech. “Derry has always told me in the past that Georgia Tech liked what they have seen in me and one of these days the opportunity to play together at Georgia Tech would happen. I think it would be pretty cool to play alongside him, the chemistry would definitely be there, and we would be disrupting the offensive gameplan.”
Georgia Tech has two defensive line coaches, and often you will see them both recruit a guy to make them feel the love from the Jackets. “Coach Pope and Coach Simpson are the two coaches I have been communicating with the most at Georgia Tech. Coach Pope started recruiting me a couple of weeks ago, and it has been pretty cool talking to him. I just met coach Simpson the other day and is a cool coach, very exciting, and full of energy man. I definitely plan on building a great bond with both of them!”
Both the coaches had the same message for him, and it’s one that he really likes. ‘It’s all a family at Georgia Tech. I will definitely be taken care of like their own.”
In today’s portal world we see guys come and go quickly, when looking for the school to commit to Freddie wants to feel that he is a priority to them and not just another guy. “Honestly, I will know a school is home when the connection is there. I want to be one of the top priorities and not just someone there to fill a spot on the line. That definitely matters in the recruiting process to me.”
Freddie is getting a lot of attention on the trail and has received visits from Georgia Tech, Miami, Minnesota, and Nc State among others. He plans on visiting Minnesota this weekend and they have really been spending a lot of time recruiting him. He did share that he will be taking a visit to Georgia Tech in the spring. This will be one to keep an eye on for Georgia Tech fans.
